With reference to the exhibition Sonia Leimer. Autoterritorium, we will be investigating aspects of performativity and temporality. Related theoretical positions, such as Peggy Phelan\u2019s widely recognized treatise, \u201cUnmarked. The politics of performance\u201d (1993), will be presented. According to Phelan, the resistant potential of performance is a function of its specific temporality. Because a performance takes place only in the moment \u2013 and can neither be properly recorded nor reproduced \u2013 it evades the capitalist circulation of goods. Arguing from the perspective of cultural history, Philip Auslander represents an opposing position and points to the mutual interdependence of a media-bound culture, on the one hand, and its claim to supposed immediacy, on the other. We will confront specific text passages with the complex temporal amalgamations described by Sonia Leimer in her works. What is the nature of relationship between performativity and temporality these works embody? Are the theories valid?
