What is the task of art criticism? What is the state of its mediation function in a time when the ingrained Western criteria assessing the quality of art need to be revised? What is art criticism\u2019s responsibility in this context? What role can reflecting on one\u2019s own speaker position when judging play? How is an art-critical ethos constructed and lived? What challenges arise given the fact that numerous debates in contemporary art are taking place in political scenarios? How can art criticism position itself here? How do we want to deal with the talk of the autonomy of art in this context? These are questions that have become extremely pressing, especially in the coverage of this year\u2019s documenta<\/em> that in the German-language discourse differs significantly from others. While the first part of the TAXISPALAIS event series (2018) dealt with non-discriminatory speech, this edition of Apr\u00e8s la lettre__speech and effect <\/em>addresses the question regarding the kind of power and responsibility that is ascribed to art-critical speech. The symposium focuses on German-language art criticism.<\/p>\n
