Judith Fegerl in conversation with Simone Menegoi and Nina Tabassomi<\/strong> (in English)<\/p>\n

\u201cThe word \u201aLeitung\u2019* that appears in black letters on the surface of the white wall that has been painted around it several times identifies the office of the Director. On the occasion of my first meeting with Nina Tabassomi, who had just assumed her position at the TAXISPALAIS, I took a photograph of this lettering. Its meaning however\u2014as it later turned out\u2014manifested within the title of the exhibition and the substance of the museum.\u201d Judith Fegerl
\n*The German word \u201cLeitung\u201d has two meanings. One is \u201chead of\u201d or being in charge of an institution; and the other is line, as in electrical wiring, a water pipe, etc.<\/p>\n

\u201cWould it be going too far to say that from this standpoint, in its relationship with the body (and through the body, with architecture), Fegerl\u2019s work forges a dialog with an artistic tradition that is intrinsically Viennese? Looking at these drawings, with their allusions to surgical methods and electrical burns, it is hard not to think of Rudolf Schwarzkogler\u2019s photographic tableaux or G\u00fcnter Brus\u2019s drawings from the 1960s. It is fascinating to think of Fegerl\u2019s drawings as a laboratory version of these same corporeal obsessions: a version purged of all figurative elements, rendered antiseptic, filtered by the specific interests of the artist and of our time.\u201d Simone Menegoi<\/p>\n

\u201cJudith Fegerl\u2019s works act as trans\u00adformers towards the exhibition space. Her sculptures, architectural operations and spatial drawings cut themselves into the substance of the exhibition space. Rather than treating the exhibition space as habitat and platform for her own works, her works shape that space. Some works are site\u00ad-specific, while others are already present (in a conceptual sense). Yet they both agitate and integrate the set\u00adtings in which they are presented.\u00a0Objects that lie beyond the reach of our material concepts and cognitive matrix assume form in provocative, beau\u00adtiful and brutal ways.\u201d Nina Tabassomi<\/p>\n

This catalog succeeds the solo show Judith Fegerl in charge<\/em> at the TAXISPALAIS. The publication witnesses and discusses interventions both sustainable and ephemeral performed at the core of the Kunsthalle.<\/p>\n
