The focus will be, on the one hand, alternative models to linear and progressive time and, on the other, the discussion of how the logic of linear time and time standardization has been deployed to prevent equality, social and ecological justice. What if we acknowledged that there is always some\u00a0<em>there<\/em>\u00a0in the\u00a0<em>here<\/em>\u00a0and some\u00a0<em>then<\/em>\u00a0in the\u00a0<em>now<\/em>? Could we live \u201ckal\u201d [1] when yesterday is tomorrow and \u201ch\u0101l\u201d [2] \u00a0when the present merges with the temper of the moment? And would this extended present allow for replacing devastating notions of progress by a regeneration paradigm?<\/p>\n<p>Conceived by Siddhartha Lokanandi &amp; Nina Tabassomi<\/p>\n<p>[1] \u201ckal\u201d means both yesterday and tomorrow in Hindi and Urdu<br \/>\n[2] \u201ch\u0101l\u201d means the present and also refers to mood in Farsi<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>December 2, 2022, 3pm &#8211; 6pm:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Opening of the STORIES OF TIME gatherings with Vazira Zamindar and Shahram Khosravi <\/strong><strong>(in English)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Vazira Zamindar (Historian, Brown University): <em>Time of Love<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>When the many modalities of telling stories of the past, of remembering, of experiencing the past, are forced into the empty homogeneous time of history as a quick translation or pedagogic exercise for producing modern forward-thinking consciousness, what happens to our capacity to cohabit? What happens to our capacity to love? In other words, can love stories, with all their longing, draw us gently towards other political imaginaries than those sutured to history?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shahram Khosravi (Anthropologist, Stockholm University): <em>Waiting means Seeing<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>While we all wait, we do not wait in the same way and the consequences of waiting are different depending on the forms of our vulnerabilities. The unceasing bordering practices institutionalize delays and keep people waiting for a job, a visa, asylum, or access to the city. This talk will focus on the implications of temporal bordering for migrants who are exposed to constant delaying and prolonged waiting. However, waiting can also be a wakeful navigation through material struggles in the present and \u2018directing one\u2019s mind toward\u2019 the not-yet in daily practice. Povinelli (in English)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rosalyn D\u2019Mello (feminist writer, art critic, columnist, essayist, editor and researcher): <\/strong><strong><em>Milking Time<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Originally written during snatches of \u201cfound\u201d time over a seven-day span in January 2023, <em>Milking Time<\/em> has since grown into a fleshy, messy meditation on immigrant maternal time. Handwritten with a LAMY ink pen and borrowed stationary, the durational work, commissioned by Camera Austria, has grown into an urgent search mission; an attempt to recover the hours D\u2019Mello does not even have as the mother of a toddler and as a person struggling to earn a living and \u201cmake\u201d home in bilingual South Tyrol. <em>Milking Time<\/em> embodies an intersectional feminist approach to writing. It is invested in theorizing lived experience while retrieving maternal subjectivity from the all-consuming shadow of motherwork, in the absence of the mythical \u201cvillage\u201d.
