M+M

7 Tage

3. October – 29. November 2015

In their first ever solo exhibition in Austria, artist duo M+M (Marc Weis, *1965 in Daun, and Martin De Mattia, *1963 in Duisburg, live and work in Munich) are presenting the film cycle 7 Days. An installation conceived especially for the hall of the Galerie im Taxispalais shows the full seven-part work, which M+M have been developing successively since 2009. The installation resembles a multi-perspective cinema, expanding on the language of film with spatial structures and new narrative methods. Each film in the cycle tells its own story but is split into two variants, which are projected in parallel. The protagonist – played by actor Christoph Luser – finds himself experiencing apparently everyday situations over the seven days, but the scenarios display stark contrasts. All seven films refer to key scenes from different feature films in which the psychological dimension of human relationships is revealed. In their double stagings M+M give a fresh interpretation to these scenes, developing a filmic language that highlights the mutability of present-day identities.
